Tulips

Tulip is a flower that belongs to the family of Liliaceae having more than 100 species. These flowers are native to southern Europe, north Africa, and Asia from Anatolia and Iran, east to northeast China and Japan. The centre of diversity of the genus is in the Pamir and Hindu Kush mountains and the steppes of Kazakhstan. Tulips are perennial bulbous plants with a small number of waxy textured, glaucous and strap shaped leaves. The tulip plant has large flowers with six petals. The fruit of this plant has numerous flat disc shaped seeds and is in the form of a dry capsule. Tulip plants grow to a height of about 10 to 70 centimetres.

Gerberas

Gerbera is a genus of ornamental plants from the sunflower family. It was named in honour of the German naturalist Traugott Gerber. It has about 30 species in the wild, extending to South America, Africa, Madagascar, and tropical Asia. The first scientific description of a Gerbera was made by J.D. Hooker in Curtis Botanical Magazine in 1889 when he described Gerbera jamesonii, a South African species also known as Transvaal daisy or Barberton Daisy.

Lilies

Lily is a flower that belongs to the genus lilium and comprises of more than 100 species in its family, Liliaceae. They are very beautiful and used as showy garden plants with large flowers. Lilies basically belong to the northern temperate regions. Their range extends across much of Europe, the north Mediterranean, across most of Asia to Japan, south to the Nilgiri mountains in India, south to the Philippines and southern Canada through much of the United States. A few species formerly included within this genus have now been placed in other genera. These include Cardiocrinum and Nomocharis.
